What is glass protection?

Put simply, glass protection is a filler that adheres to your glass to protect it from contaminant build-up and damage. To the human eye, glass is a smooth surface, but on a microscopic level it's full of tiny ridges. Water, soap, dirt, and other contaminants can adhere to your glass by building up and getting stuck in these ridges. Over time, this can cause irreversible damage as it becomes near impossible for most cleaning product to remove the build-up. Wiping dirt away, even with chemical cleaners, might reach some of the product but anything stuck in those microscopic ridges is near impossible to reach.

Glass contains small ridges to which water and grime can adhere.

Glass protection uses nanotechnology, with tiny, microscopic particles that fill in the ridges in your glass. Once the treatment is applied, it smooths out the bumps creating a perfectly smooth surface which contaminants, and even water, can’t adhere to. Instead, it creates a beading effect – sitting on the surface until you wipe it away. This makes glass much easier to clean and since product can’t enter the glass ridges, your glass will be protected against damage for years to come.

So, how does glass protection work?

You can protect your glass in 3 steps:

1. Pre-clean

First, you’ll need to pre-clean your glass to make sure it’s perfectly clean. It’s best to protect your glass when it’s brand new, but you can also have your glass restored before applying a treatment. This can get your glass back to around 80% using commercial-grade products and ideally an orbital sander. There are DIY restoration options, or you can get the pros in to restore your glass for you if you’re unsure.

Pre-cleaning is the most important step to get right as you want to make sure the product can get right into those tiny ridges.

2. Treat your glass

Next, you’ll apply your glass protection product. This part is fairly easy – just apply the product to the whole pane of glass and leave it to sit for 10 minutes. You may notice a slight greasy look at this point. Don’t worry, that’s normal! After letting the product sit, you’ll then buff the glass with a microfibre cloth to remove any excess product.

Let the product set for a further few hours. If you’re applying your glass protection product to a shower, avoid using the shower during these first few hours.

That’s it, you're done! After 24 hours you’ll have fully protected glass. You can even use any leftover product to protect your boat or car windows.

3. After-care

Cleaning and after-care are essential to make your glass protection last. Give your glass a quick wipe down with a microfibre cloth. Aftercare instructions will also be provided with each purchase of our glass protection products.
