The battle against watermarks

It’s a constant battle for homeowners to keep glass clean over time. Watermarks are key to keep an eye on here. If you don’t keep up with regularly cleaning all your indoor and outdoor glass, water, dirt, and mineral build-up will etch into your glass, eating away at it and causing damage. Especially if you’re on our beautiful coast, with those ocean views and sea salt spray!

Now’s the time to think about prevention – to stop water from damaging all your outdoor glass over the winter. Once it warms up, any build-up and watermarks and deposits that have built up will bake into the glass through its porous surface.

Once the spots are there, they’re pretty tough to get rid of. There are loads of products out there talking about removing stains, but it can take a fair amount of hard work and skill to restore your glass - and it's unlikely to look brand new again. On top of that, not all stains can be removed, and you’ll have to be careful with which YouTube videos you follow, so you don’t scratch the glass in the process!

The best way to restore glass is to hire a professional. You can DIY it provided you pick a good product, a gentle scourer, your glass isn’t too damaged, and/or you’re comfortable using an orbital sander. Our restoration kits have everything you need. The tricky part is - if you only restore your glass, you’ll need to make sure you restore it again before any damage is done. Damage can happen within a matter of only weeks or months, especially with a regularly used surface like showers or glass that’s exposed to the elements outside.

What a lot of people don’t know is you can prevent this damage from happening in the first place! How, you ask? It’s called glass protection. Once glass protection product is applied, a barely visible protective coat is formed over your glass that makes water bead, unable to penetrate the porous surface.

Glass protection lasts for years – especially when applied by a professional, who will provide a warranty for their work.

Cleaning is much easier once glass protection is applied, too. It can cut the time it takes to clean your glass by up to 90% as all you’ll have to do is wipe away water, dirt, and mineral build-up with a microfibre cloth. You’ll still need to maintain it, but it’ll be a lot quicker and easier to get through.

Once you notice water is not beading off the surface anymore, it might be time for another treatment.

We’d recommend getting in before your glass is exposed to the elements for the best bet at preventing damage.
